PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - It seems a new animal shelter in Pawtucket is resulting in new homes for dozens of cats and dogs. Since the city's Animal Control opened its new facility last month behind the playground at Slater Park, it has adopted out 99 pets.
According to Officer John Holmes, that's a big increase from the same time frame last year, when the shelter found homes for 38 animals.
Holmes said he thinks the shelter is playing a big role in the increase. The 12,000 square-foot building is bigger and more welcoming, he said.
The new shelter has 46 dog kennels and room for 130 cats. It also has an operating room where animals can be neutered and spayed, as well as an adoption room.
