WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Police in Warwick believe a 3-year-old boy found dead in his mother's car over the weekend had climbed into the vehicle in hopes of going for a ride.
Police Major Joseph Tavares said Wednesday that it appears the child, James Lymburner Jr., entered the unlocked car through the front seat Sunday afternoon. The boy then found himself locked inside after childproof locks in the backseat activated.
A search crew of family and neighbors found him unconcious about three hours later.
The boy had apparently walked out of the house while his mother was napping inside. Tavares said the child loved his mother's car and was hoping to be taken for a ride.
Police say the death, from heart failure due to overheating, was an accident.
