TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands (AP) - New testimony in the David Swain murder trial reveals the former Jamestown Town Councilor used part of his dead wife's inheritance on another woman.
Swain is on trial in the British Virgin Islands. Prosecutors say he killed his wife, Shelley Tyre, during a scuba diving trip in 1999.
On Thursday Swain told the court that he used some of Tyre's inheritance to court another woman, including taking her on a cruise. He admitted taking three trips using Tyre's funds. The inheritance was worth about 630,000 dollars.
Swain was charged with her murder after a 2006 civil trial here in the United States found him responsible for Tyre's death.
