PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A Southwest Airlines flight hits a flock of birds while heading to T.F. Green Airport. Flight 69 was forced to immediately return to BWI airport, for a safe landing.

Tuesday night, a new Flight 69 touched down in Rhode Island with many relieved passengers.

"It was just a bunch of big black thing, and then it made a big noise and you could smell it, terrible," said one passenger.

Those passengers who didn't see the bird strike knew something was wrong by the sound and smell.

"We heard this big thud, thud, thud and then you smell that terrible smell and then as soon as we got up a little bit the pilot leveled off the plane and I knew that something was wrong and then they started circling back towards the airport," said another passenger.

The original Flight 69 struck a flock of bird taking off from Baltimore, MD. Besides the immediate sound and smell, a loss of power tipped off passengers that something was very wrong.
