WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - Toyota announced Monday morning that dealerships should get parts to fix a sticky gas pedal problem this week.
For Toyota, it's the beginning of an end to a recall that has affected 4.2 million vehicles worldwide.
The automaker recalled the vehicles on January 21st.
Some dealers will stay open 24 hours to fix the potentially dangerous problem.
Eyewitness news wanted to know, when will customers receive their recall letter in the mail? How long will it take to repair the faulty pedal?
And, are dealers ready for the nearly overwhelming number of drivers with potentially defective cars?
Eyewitness News found out that Toyota dealerships in Rhode Island say they expect to be slammed with people looking to have their vehicles fixed.
At Balise Toyota in Warwick, it's anything but business as usual.
"We're actually having clinics so customers can see the parts, see how we do it and get education to understand what's really happening."
A letter will be sent out to customers to let them know of the recall and when they can make appointments to have their vehicle fixed.
Customers can expect a 30 minute fix in the repair shop.
Many local dealerships, like Balise, are extending their hours, some 24 hours a day, just to get all of the recalled repairs fixed.
