LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Strong thunderstorms that moved through Rhode Island around noon Monday are to blame for some damage in the East Bay.

Lightning is believed to be the cause of an attic fire on West Main Rd. in Little Compton.

The owner of the home was in the house with her granddaughter when the bolt struck around 12:15 p.m. No one was hurt.

Lightning also caused some problems for the Portsmouth Police Department - knocking out phone and radio service for about two hours this afternoon. During the interruption, residents were asked to call 911 in emergencies or go to the police department directly for routine matters.

According to Eyewitness News Meteorologist Michelle Muscatello , more storms could pop up later Monday afternoon, bringing damaging winds, hail and dangerous lightning.
