Red Sox exec questions Schilling loan

Says RI taxpayers would be on the hook

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Boston Red Sox executive Jeremy Kapstein says he has serious questions about the viability of a plan by Rhode Island to offer a video game company owned by former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling a $75 million loan guarantee to move to the state.

The Democrat is running for Rhode Island lieutenant governor.

He told WPRO-AM Friday that if Schilling's company fails, the taxpayers will be on the hook.

Kapstein says he thinks the money should instead go to small businesses already in Rhode Island that are struggling and unable to get financing.

Schilling's 38 Studios , based in Maynard, Mass., says it could provide up to 400 jobs by the end of 2012 if it relocated to Rhode Island.
