FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) - Federal immigration officials said they detained dozens of people in Foxboro Wednesday, after pulling them over on their way to Gillette Stadium.
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said they stopped four vans on Route 1. They were carrying 60 people from Rhode Island to Gillette Stadium to shovel snow. ICE spokesperson Paula Grenier said authorities were searching for specific immigration fugitives.
Seven of the immigrants who had been detained were still in custody Thursday. Grenier said two were found to be in the country illegally, and five had re-entered the country after being deported.
49 others were released, but ordered to appear for further interviews with immigration officials, Grenier said.
