PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- The Senate Finance Committee heard a bill Wednesday that would keep tolls off the Sakonnet River Bridge.
The General Assembly approved the tolls last year, resulting in an outcry from people who live and work on Aquidneck Island.
Opponents of the tolls chartered a bus to bring people from several affected communities to Wednesday's hearing.
The group delivered thousands of petition signatures to lawmakers.
No vote was taken at Wednesday's meeting.
