WARREN, R.I. (WPRI) - Warren firefighters were forced to battle flames and the heat today at a home on Arlington Ave.
Two women who live in the home made it out safely.
The fire chief tells Eyewitness News his crews had to take extra precautions to deal with the dangerous temperatures, which reached about 700 degrees inside the burning home.
"Don't forget all these firefighters are putting 20 to 40 more pounds of gear on them in high temperatures, high humidity, it takes a toll on them. Good thing we had plenty of water here. We rotated the firefighters every three to five minutes out of the building. Did not let them stay in there too long. Brought them to the rescue where there's air conditioning to rehydrate them and check them out," says Chief Alexander Galinelli.
No firefighters were hurt.
The fire appears to have started in a second floor bedroom, and may have been electrical in nature.
