WARREN, R.I. (WPRI) -- Health officials have detected Eastern Equine Encephalitis in mosquitoes trapped in Warren.
One sample from the Schoolhouse Road area tested positive for the disease, though the species feeds almost exclusively on birds.
Officials say that even though evening temperatures are on the decline, Rhode Islanders must remain vigilant in protecting themselves since infected mosquitoes are still in the environment.
So far this year, five pools of mosquitoes have tested positive for EEE, and four have come up positive for West Nile Virus.
