WARREN, R.I. (WPRI) – The Coventry native Ron Wallace who broke the world record for heaviest pumpkin in the Massachusetts Topsfield Fair is also the winner of Rhode Island’s annual pumpkin weigh-off at Frerichs Farm.

Wallace’s great pumpkin weighed in Saturday at 1,872 pounds, 130 pounds less then his 2,009 pound record breaking pumpkin.

Wallace had hoped this pumpkin would surpass the pumpkin he brought to Topsfield last week.

The second place pumpkin was grown by Charles Lieber of Massachusetts. His pumpkin weighed in at 1,770.5 pounds.

Though Wallace’s pumpkin did not break his own world record, it was the heaviest pumpkin to ever be weighed at the Rhode Island event.
