BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) -- Police are investigating a stabbing that involved a young woman and a Portsmouth teenager.
The violence was the result of an argument just after 9 p.m. on Francis Street in Bristol.
Police tell us the victim was a passenger in a passing car when the 17-year-old began to yell at the occupants. After the car turned around and stopped, the teen reached into the car and stabbed the 21-year-old victim in the right shoulder.
She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for the stab wound, which is not considered to be life-threatening.
We're told the victim lives at an apartment building on Francis Street, and the 17-year-old was visiting a relative in the same building.
Officers are not yet sure what caused the argument, but believe the two females knew one another prior to the incident. The knife was recovered inside of the building.
The teen was taken into custody, and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday.
