NEWPORT R.I. (WPRI) –A Newport man turns himself in for stabbing another man early Saturday morning.
Police tell Eyewitness News that 35 year old Jamere Wilkins of Newport is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon, domestic simple assault and domestic breaking and entering.
Police responded to Rhode Island hospital after reports that a stabbing victim had been admitted and was being treated for several stab wounds. The stabbing happened at the Rolling Green Housing Complex on Admiral Kalbfus Rd.
Officials tell us that a 41 year old Boston man was stabbed six times in the chest, groin, chest, shoulder and back.
Police say the two knew each other through a mutual acquaintance.
The victim’s identity has not been released. He is still being treated at Rhode Island Hospital.
Wilkins will be in court Monday morning to face those charges.
The stabbing remains under investigation.
This is the third stabbing in Newport in one week.
