PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) -- Algae that could become toxic has turned up in a Portsmouth pond.
According to the Departments of Health and Environmental Management, a blue-green algae bloom is forming in Melville Pond. The algae may produce toxins harmful to humans and animals.
Health and environmental officials say people and pets should stay out of the water, and not eat any fish from the pond.
