PORTMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) – Musicians from Portsmouth High School are practicing for the performance of a lifetime as the group heads to Washington D.C. this weekend to perform for the President.
Portsmouth High School students have dedicated their time to intense practice sessions to prepare before their performance at the inauguration ceremony of President Barack Obama.
The Patriot marching band has spent countless hours working toward their goal of perfection.
School administrators say that the invitation from Washington came as a big surprise.
“It’s such an honor to be invited to march in this parade. It really just represents America and music as a whole,” said marching band member Drew Matthews.
“It’s the performance of a lifetime,” said band director Ted Rausch.
The group leaves Sunday morning for Washington D.C. to perform on Monday morning.
