PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) - Police in Portsmouth, along with officers from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management , are on the hunt for an alligator in Sisson Pond.
Police say they've confirmed the presence of the animal, believe to be about 3-feet long, after a resident reported seeing the alligator in the pond.
Officials say the resident took a picture of the alligator on the banks of the pond. They say a DEM officer went to the pond this afternoon and spotted the alligator but the reptile got away. Police and DEM officials said they will continue to work to capture the animal, which according to the DEM, is not as large as it seemed in the picture.
