EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - An osprey nest is on the move in East Providence.  Today, engineers worked to safely relocate the bird's nesting area from the top of a National Grid distribution system pole.

The utility company tells Eyewitness News, the move was necessary because the location of the nest posed a danger to the birds, and could have caused a possible service disruption for National Grid customers.

Crews from DiPrete Engineering designed a new nesting platform to mimic the osprey's original home.

Ospreys, also referred to as sea hawks, are found in coastal areas.
