NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) -- Newport Police have identified the three woman found dead in a submerged car Friday.
Lieutenant William Fitzgerald tells Eyewitness News that the three victims are Jennifer Way of Saunderstown, Louise Owen of the United Kingdom, and Femmetje Staring of Holland. All three were 39 years old and worked aboard yachts based out of Newport.
The driver of a fuel delivery truck spotted the car upside down in the water at about 6:30 Friday morning. Emergency crews discovered the three victims inside and later raised the car.
Police said Friday that the car may have missed a turn and plunged about ten feet off a stone pier into the water, which was about four feet deep. Speed was not a factor and police do not suspect foul play.
