NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - Newport Grand may be added to a casino ballot question this November.
Lawmakers have already approved a referendum for voters to consider making Twin River a full-scale casino, but after Massachusetts approved its casino bill last year, the owners of Newport Grand decided they also want the chance to add table games.
A bill that would add Newport Grand to the referendum was introduced in the House Finance Committee this week. The proposed bill would give the state full control to make decisions about what casino games could be included.
Besides going to a state vote, the bill also calls for the city of Newport to have a say in casino games as well.
