Newport stabbing suspect remains behind bars

Accused of stabbing man to death on Gould Street

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) -- A suspect in a deadly Newport stabbing has been ordered held as he awaits his next court appearance.

A bail hearing for Joseph Perryman, 42, has been continued to Dec. 18, and he will remain behind bars until then.

Perryman is accused of stabbing 44-year-old Anthony Simmons to death inside of a Gould Street apartment last Wednesday night.

Newport police were able to track him down and make an arrest within six minutes of receiving the 911 call.
