NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island will host a gathering of historic tall ships in an event scheduled for next summer in Newport.
The Ocean State Tall Ships Festival is scheduled to run from July 6 through 9.
Event organizers and state economic development officials plan to formally announce the event Wednesday in Newport.
Officials predict the tall ship festival could attract thousands of tourists and pump millions of dollars into the local economy.
Newport has hosted tall ship events before.
Next year's gathering will mark the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 that also featured naval battles between tall ships.
