Powerball players return to lucky store

Newport Stop & Shop sold jackpot winner this year

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - Powerball players are hoping lightning strikes twice at a Newport store.

The Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue sold a $336.4 million jackpot winner earlier this year.

On Tuesday, some players returned to the store to buy tickets for Wednesday's jackpot, estimated at $500 million.  Others like Susie Hill were playing for the first time.

"It's all over the news, and I figured, why not?" Hill said. "You never know when you might get lucky."

"This store was lucky once, hopefully it will be lucky twice!," said Susie's husband, Buddy Hill.

Charles Roberts says he knows the family that won this year's jumbo jackpot.

"I figure if lightning can strike twice, I want it to hit me!" Roberts said.

Powerball officials are expecting sales nationwide to average about $6.3 million per hour, meaning the jackpot could be worth even more than the projected $500 million jackpot by Wednesday night's drawing.
