NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - A fisherman was rescued early Tuesday morning, after his boat sank while en route from Narragansett to Newport.

According to Coast Guard officials, Brett Knight was found in a life raft off Brenton Reef at the mouth of Narragansett Bay.

Knight's family said he had left Point Judith in Narragansett aboard his 38-foot fishing trawler "Jawz" around 5:30 p.m. Monday evening, and was expected to arrive in Newport around 7:30 p.m. Family members reported him missing around 10 p.m.

The Coast Guard said crews searched the area between Point Judith and Newport overnight. Knight was located by the fishing vessel 5Js around 5:30 a.m.

A Coast Guard boat brought Knight to shore. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but was expected to be fine.

Knight told the Coast Guard his boat sank, but did not know where. He was the only person onboard. The Coast Guard said a Falcon Jet would search for Knight's boat later on Tuesday.
