NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — The Newport Jazz Festival is offering local music lovers a chance to buy discounted tickets to the summer music event during the month of December.
Tickets that normally sell for $74 are on sale at the bargain price of $50 from now until Dec. 31 at the Newport and Bristol County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Festival founder George Wein (WEEN') wanted to give something back to the community and encourage more local residents to attend the event. He started the discount program in 2010.
Next year's festival is scheduled to be held Aug. 2 to Aug. 4.
The lineup has not yet been announced, but the festival typically features some of the top names in jazz.
