Cops seize 191 pot plants in Newport
$5,000 worth of drugs, paraphernalia taken

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - In an unusual twist, it was the tenant, not the burglars, who ended up in handcuffs when Newport police responded to a breaking and entering call on Gibbs Ave. Wednesday.
Officers were called to 28 Gibbs Ave. after someone saw a person climbing through a first-floor window.
When they inspected further, police didn't find any suspects inside the apartment. But, they did find 191 pot plants and other drug paraphernalia worth $5000.
A short time later, police said the tenant of that apartment, Jamare M. Wilkins, 33, arrived home. Police then arrested Wilkins and charged him with manufacturing of a controlled substance.
As for the breaking and entering report, police said the detained several people, but the person seen entering the apartment could not be positively identified.
Wilkins was due in court for arraignment Thursday at Newport County Court House - 2nd Division.
