NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Newport yacht company is remembering their colleague, one of the three women who died Friday in a submerged car off the Newport pier.
MCM, also known as Marine Construction Management, sent out a statement Monday morning expressing their grief at the loss of Jennifer Way, who was in the car pulled out of the water early Friday morning that had plunged into the water.
Officials confirmed Monday that the cause of Way's death was drowning.
Way had worked with the yacht company for ten years, co-founder Peter Wilson said, starting as a receptionist. "We saw her blossom and develop into the amazing, kind, caring, confident and knowledgeable woman she became... A tremendous, unswerving and diligent employee, but more than that; a dear, dear friend," he said.
Way lived in Saunderstown. Wilson told The Providence Journal the car was hers. Police believe she made a wrong turn in Friday morning's dense fog.
The other two women were from overseas; Louise Owen from Wales in the United Kingdom, and Femmetje Staring of the Netherlands. Wilson said they, too, were "astonishing, bright, delightful women."
"We will miss them all terribly," he said.
