NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) – One local beach city, known nationwide as a summer hot-spot, just got a lot friendlier for bicyclists.
After losing one resident to an accident earlier this year, the Department of Transportation has revamped the streets of Newport to feature a bike lane.
However, there have been some concerns about the new traffic pattern. Even though the lane looks empty now, when winter is coming, residents are worried about what will happen come summer.
Bari George, a representative from Bike Newport, says that the lanes are worth it, even if it only saves one life.
According to George, the decision was not made on a whim, many people were involved and plenty of studies were conducted to thwart any potential problems.
