MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – Volunteers in Middletown are working to raise much needed supplies for hurricane Sandy victims in New York.

The fundraiser called "Aquidneck Islanders Helping Staten Islanders." is based out of the Middletown Fire Department.

Volunteers told Eyewitness News that they have received an outpouring of support from Aquidneck Island residents in only two days of collecting.

They are going to be collecting supplies for eight more days.

Volunteer’s say they needs more bleach, masks, work gloves, heavy-duty cleaning supplies, contractor bags, toiletries, heavy blankets and winter outerwear clothing.

They are also in need of someone to donate a truck that they can load up with supplies and drive to Staten Island on either November 18th or 19th.

You can find more information on their facebook page.
