Landmark restaurant sold for $2 million

Salas': Longest-run family restaurant in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - Salas’ Dining Room on Thames Street was sold for $2 million, according to our news partners at The Providence Journal .

The restaurant was sold to Larry Silverstein who plans to restore the building and continue to operate his own restaurant.

The landmark was one of the longest-running family restaurants in Newport.

According to The Providence Journal, the business began as a bar in 1952, opening up as a restaurant a year later.
