BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Barrington High School students are taking to the airwaves to encourage their classmates to stay safe behind the wheel.
Students are working together to create their own public service announcements warning about driving under the influence.
"Tried to make a video that would be kind of emotional and show the consequences of driving under the influence of marijuana," said Barrington High School freshman Julia Soares.
From start to finish, freshman and sophomore students write, shoot and edit the PSA's.
The project is led by The Bay Team, Barrington's Drug Free Community Coalition.
"Young people are key to prevention, so we had hoped to involve them in helping to develop a prevention message," said Kathleen Sullivan, The Bay Team prevention director.
The Bay Team hopes to get their messages out to the community and possibly statewide on television.
