WARREN, R.I. (WPRI) -- A commercial fisherman from Warren has been convicted of shellfishing at night -- and taking them from polluted waters.
Francisco Pacheco was arrested last August by environmental police after they caught him with more than five bushels of quahogs he had harvested from the Palmer River in the early morning hours.
He pled guilty to the charges on July 19. A Superior Court judge suspended his commercial fishing license for one year. Pacheco was ordered to serve three years probation and a three-year suspended sentence for the night shellfishing, and four years probation and a four-year suspended sentence for taking shellfish in polluted waters. He must also complete 400 hours of community service.
