BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) – The Bristol Town Council decided last week that they were not comfortable with passing the proposed bag ban , at least for now.

Mary Parella of the Bristol Town Council said, "Maybe we don't need government to ban it at this point and time, and we should try some educational methods in terms of recycling the bags, before we go to that next step.  And that's kind of the feeling of some of the council members."

Parella says the Council would consider revisiting the issue if the ban’s main advocate, Councilman Tim Sweeney, can persuade the others with additional evidence of its effectiveness.
