TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) - A 25-year-old man remains in the hospital with serious injuries after a boat crushed him.
The accident happened at a boat yard in Tiverton.
According to eyewitnesses, the 6,000 pound boat collapsed on Kyle St. Pierre while he was painting the bottom of it when a stand gave way.
The eyewitnesses said the Standish Boatyard owner's son-in-law was completely pinned underneath the 35-foot boat for several minutes. That's when several bystanders, with the help of a forklift, raised the boat off the victim.
Edmond Belisle said when he saw how grave the situation was, he did the first thing that came to his mind.
"I grabbed the forklift helped em raise the boat and drag him out. They dragged him out while I raised up the boat."
Belisle said he doesn't see himself as a hero, just a human being.
"I care more about him than I do that boat, he's a fellow worker, he's a human being you've got to take care of everybody."
He is now in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
