NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) – Newport Police have charged local prominent attorney Brian Cunha with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
Newport police tell Eyewitness News that Cunha was pulled over just before 1:00am Saturday morning.
Cunha was seen rolling through a stop sign on Narragansett Ave, stopping in the middle of the intersection.
Police continued to follow Cunha’s car and watched as he attempted to parallel park and mount a curb on Wellington Ave.
Officers say Cunha had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and told police he had been drinking.
When asked to take a breath test Cunha said “No, I will not take any test.”
Cunha was charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
He is due back in district court on September 5th.
