NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island's governor has named more than three dozen members to the committee overseeing the state's staging of an America's Cup regatta in Newport next summer.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee named 38 members of the committee that will be chaired by Brad Read, executive director of Sail Newport.

The members include the head of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, tourism and business professionals, sailing and event management experts, city leaders from Newport and surrounding communities, and others from the public and private sectors.

The committee will coordinate planning of the World Series regatta scheduled to take place from June 23 to July 1.

Chafee's office says the event could boost the economy by more than $70 million and create hundreds of jobs.
