WORCESTER, Mass., (WPRI)-- The latest energy bar on the market uses crickets as its protein source.
Living Earth natural food store in Worcester started selling Feed The Revolution bars around Christmas.
The crickets are raised in Utah and ground into a fine powder said to be high in protein and eco-friendly because they don't require a lot of water.
"It's actually a flour so you're not running into pieces of legs or wing," Owner of Living Earth Frank Phelan said. "Insects and crickets in particular, are very good at converting plant material into animal protein much more efficiently than beef or pork would do."
The bars come in chocolate peanut butter flavor and a "Thai" version with coconut, ginger and lime.
The Living Earth store is the only New England location currently selling the bars.
