CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Water has receded from some areas in Cranston, according to police.
Flooding on portions of Fletcher Avenue and Bald Hill Road had cleared Tuesday morning, police said.
Several other roads, including the area of Elmwood Avenue and Wellington Avenue, were still submerged in several feet of water. Dozens of homes and businesses have been flooded.
Police said they remained concerned about the Elmwood Avenue Bridge Tuesday morning. The Pawtuxet River was still several feet above flood stage, and officials were worried it could flow onto the bridge.
Meteorologist Michelle Muscatello said the Pawtuxet River had crested and begun to recede, but major flooding would likely continue into Wednesday.
Earlier Monday, Cranston fire crews said they rescued a man who was clinging to a tree in the river off of Kenney Drive. He and another man were in a boat that sank. Firefighters said the other man managed to swim to shore. Both were taken to the hospital.
