PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The city of Providence is starting its curbside pickup of Christmas trees.
Trees will be picked up citywide on regular trash collection days from Monday through Jan. 18.
Residents should remove tinsel, decorations and lights from their trees and take them out of their stands. The trees should be placed on the curb. No bags should be used.
The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corp., which operates the landfill and the state's recycling programs, will be turning the trees into compost that is used to enrich soil.
