Barrington, R.I. (WPRI) - Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington is getting ready to host some world class golfers in the annual CVS/Caremark Charity Classic golf tournament. Over the last ten years, the event has raised twelve million dollars for local charities.

Youth in Action on Broad Street in Providence is one of the non-profit groups that receives funding from CVS/Caremark.

Youth in Action teaches young people leadership through a variety of programs and the teens actually help run the organization. Teenagers sit on the Youth in Action board of directors, with adults, to learn all aspects of leadership.

The teens also take part in community projects, like cleanups, health education and the media team.

Media team members put together a website called "The RIPTA Crisis"  to drive home the personal impact of RIPTA busing cuts. The media team also put together a Public Service Announcement denouncing violence.

Team member Susan Anderson says, "I felt like I wanted to be part of it because I wanted to do something for change."

Adeola Oredola is the executive director of Youth in Action. She says the program was awarded $10,000 this year from CVS/Caremark and a total of $45,000 over the past few years.

Oredola says Youth in Action is a leadership organization where youth are at the forefront of creating positive social change in their communities. “They're experts at what they do, because they live it every single day,” she said.

You can learn more about Youth in Action and other charities that benefit from the CVS/Caremark Charity Classic, Thursday night at 7:00 right here on WPRI-12. Karen Adams and Patrick Little host the "CVS/Caremark Charity Classic Preview Show". WPRI-12 will be bringing you this special presentation in high definition (HD).
