LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) - Harley the pug, is in the running to win the most unusual pet health-insurance claim, after eating 100 rocks.

It's been a rocky road to stardom for Harley.

"I picked him up on a Sunday afternoon and we came home and Harley started pooping out rocks," his owner Lori Laverdiere said.

Laverdiere says she left her pug with the vet and during his outside time, the dog for some reason ate around a hundred small rocks.

"He probably downed all the rocks in about 10 minutes not even. He's part pug, part Hoover I guess? Haha."

She laughs now but when she first saw the x-ray, she was very concerned. As the day progressed his condition got worse.

When he started get convulsions and stuff I called my mom and I'm crying and I'm hysterical and I'm like Harley is going to die.

But the pooch survived with quite a tale to tell.

Laverdiere has pet insurance for Harley.

Now, the little canine is up for the Hambone Award, which is given to the most unusual pet health insurance claim of the year.

"I'm really hoping that he does win because it's certainly an unusual claim."

Harley has some stiff competition. One competitor is a Chihuahua that got picked up by an owl looking for food but survived.

Right now, Harley is in first place in the competition, click here if you would like to vote for him.
