Short-haul truck drivers needed in RI

Looking for 40 Class A commercial drivers

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - Ever thought you had what it takes to be a truck driver? Now's your chance to prove it. There is a recruitment drive currently underway looking for 40 Class A commercial drivers in Rhode Island.

The State Department of Labor and Training and Crowley Transportation are working together to find more drivers as a result of the explosive growth in the state.

"There are a lot of trucking companies with a lot of business," said recruitment manager Guy Beaulieu.

Candidates must have a minimum of two years of driving experience, clean driving records and a commercial Class A driver's license. They should be prepared for an on-sight interview, a drug screening test, a motor-vehicle records check and a background check.

The recruitment is big news for folks at NetworkRI.

"For a long time we didn't have companies coming in and recruiting there wasn't a want or need," said Joe Healey.

Driver's that are hired for this project should expect to be assigned short hauls beginning in Rhode Island that require no overnight travel.

The pay is between $17/hr and $19/hr depending on experience.
