PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - A pit bull puppy abandoned and severely injured receives a life-saving surgery thanks to generous donations from the public.
The puppy was found injured and abandoned in Slater Park Wednesday night. The dog, estimated to be about five or six months old had a severely injured leg, and was in dire need of an amputation.
Animal control officers said if the dog didn't receive the operation, they would be forced to put the dog down. It cost an estimated $2,000 for the amputation procedure. Animal control officer John Holmes is uncertain how the animal became injured.
Officials do not know where the pup came from, as it is illegal to own pit bulls in Pawtucket. Holmes described the dog as an "extremely friendly" pit bull.
If you'd like to adopt the unnamed puppy, call the Pawtucket Animal Shelter at (401) 722-4243.
