RIPEC helping Pawtucket with spending
City commissions study to help find places to cut

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Pawtucket has hired the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council to help officials find ways the struggling city can reduce its spending.
Mayor Donald Grebien says the city will pay just under $25,000 for the study, which seeks to find potential savings in the city and school district budgets.
The study is expected to begin next month.
The Public Expenditure Council, known as RIPEC, is an independent, nonprofit public policy organization.
Pawtucket faces a $2 million shortfall in the current year budget.
Grebien has ordered a spending freeze while officials look for ways to plug the budget deficit.
