CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island's Ethics Commission says there's probable cause that Central Falls Mayor Charles Moreau violated the state ethics code when he accepted a heating furnace from a campaign contributor.

The decision Tuesday moves the case forward to a trial-like hearing, though Moreau has the option of settling before that.

A complaint filed by the chair of the state Republican Party accused Moreau, a Democrat, of failing to pay the full price for a heating furnace given to him by Michael Bouthillette.

Bouthillette at the time had a contract with the city to board up abandoned homes and properties.

The furnace was installed in Moreau's house at a cost of $6, A lawyer for Moreau did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
