CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) - There’s been a lot of talk about great white sharks lurking in the waters off Cape Cod . Well now, one Rhode Island family has video proof of their close encounter with the ferocious fish.

Jennifer Cournoyer, her husband and their sons spotted the big fish Friday, off the coast of Race Point South in Provincetown, Mass.

"We were like wow. We're really going to see a shark up here. We've never seen it before," said Cournoyer. "My husband was the first to say it. It's a great white. It was just a huge great white shark."

The 15-foot shark was about 20 yards from shore, when it attacked a seal, sending its prey's blood spraying in all directions.

"I turned back and I saw the splash and we just saw this seal get bitten," said 7-year-old Griffen Cournoyer.

The Cournoyers were amazed at the sight, but still had the piece of mind to snap a picture.

Even though at one point the shark was seen only a few feet from the area where their children like to swim, the family tells Eyewitness News that they're not afraid to go back in the water.
