CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) - Central Falls school officials are expected to give an update Monday on the efforts to turn around the city's troubled high school.
Teachers at Central Falls High School agreed to a comprehensive transformation plan earlier this year, as part of a deal that allowed them to keep their jobs. Superintendent Frances Gallo originally announced that every teacher would be fired in a dramatic effort to turn the school around.
Despite the transformation plan, the first few months of the new school year at Central Falls High have been marked with problems. Administrators say many teachers are absent every day, and there has been bad behavior among students.
Education Commissioner Deborah Gist said last week closing the school, labeled as one of the most chronically underperforming in the state, was still an option .
