WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - A 19-year-old male cheerleading instructor fell out a four-story window Thursday at a local cheerleading school.
Dylan Smith fell out what was supposed to be a sealed window Thursday afternoon around 4:30 and landed on the ground after falling 4 stories.
Woonsocket Police Detective Lt. Eugene Jalette said Smith was exercising on his own after a class had just gotten over at the Superior Cheer Cheerleading School on Main Street in Woonsocket.
Smith landed in heavy vegetation below and was immediately transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
"He's sort of a heavy fellow, and the nails gave way," Jalette told Eyewitness News' partner The Providence Journal.
Police and hospital officials confirmed Saturday afternoon that his condition had been upgraded from critical to serious, expecting him to make a full recovery.
The building where the cheerleading school is a former mill building that was constructed in 1846 with an addition built in 1897.
