NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - A father accused of killing his baby was back in court for a bail hearing on Friday.

Police say Rachin McCoy beat his 6-week old daughter to death back in January in Newport.

McCoy originally claimed the baby fell off the couch but later changed his story and said he dropped the child while playing with her.

At Friday's bail hearing, medical examiner, Dr. Alexander Chirkov, testified that the infant could not have died from a simple fall.

He also said little Naiomi had 17 fractured ribs that had been caused within days of her death and he also found 5 older injuries to her ribs.

McCoy pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.
