PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - -
The controversial state senate Democratic primary in West Warwick is officially over.
The Rhode Island Supreme Court Thursday declined to consider any further appeal filed by state Sen. Stephen Alves (D-District 9).
The ruling means the latest Board of Elections decision, declaring Michael Pinga the winner, stands.
Alves appealed the primary results and requested a new trial after two recounts showed Pinga ahead.
The Court's decision came today after Justice Maureen McKenna Goldberg held a conference in chambers to consider an emergency motion from Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis to lift a Supreme Court stay of the Board of Elections ruling.
The legal wrangle has held up preparations for the November elections, since the Secretary of State's office could not print ballots in West Warwick until the legal challenges were decided.
